Installing Waterproof Tanking Tape

Backer Board PRO Tanking Tape is a self-adhesive, butyl-backed fleece tape designed to create a permanent waterproof seal. It’s ideal for sealing joints, corners, and pipe entries in wet areas before tiling—such as showers and wet rooms.

Apply directly to waterproof substrates like wet room boards, or use it to enhance waterproofing on standard plaster or timber-based boards.

The fleece backing allows for multi-directional flexibility, accommodating board movement while maintaining a watertight seal.

Usage Guidelines:

1. Do not apply to surfaces treated with white spirit or stearate-based products.
2. Avoid use in areas exposed to excessive heat.

Installation Tip: Ensure surfaces are clean, dry, and dust-free. Always assess suitability before installation—installer assumes responsibility for proper application.

This tape is most effective when used alongside our wet room shower trays, tile backer boards, and is fully compatible with our heat mat and loose cable underfloor heating systems. It provides a reliable watertight seal on joints with minimal effort.

Composition

• Butyl Rubber Adhesive Layer: A self-adhesive, pressure-sensitive layer, offering strong bonding and waterproof sealing on a variety of surfaces including cement & tile backer boards, timber, and plasterboard.
• Fleece Fabric Top Layer: A non-woven polyester or polypropylene fleece that allows bonding with tile adhesives and accommodates substrate movement.
• Release Film: A removable liner that protects the adhesive before installation.
